ANANTA Multiplayer and Cross-Play Status
ANANTA launches as a single-player game. Steam's category section says so, the PlayStation page says one player, and every hands-on report describes one character in one city. The multiplayer tags are noise, and the 2023 co-op comment predates the current build.
| Launch mode | Single-player |
|---|---|
| Steam category | Single-player only |
| PS store | Online required, one player |
| Co-op | No confirmed mode |
| PvP | Not announced |
| Cross-play | Not announced |
| Cross-progression | Not announced |
| MMO | No; the producer has said it is not an MMORPG |
Launch is a solo experience
Both storefronts agree. Steam's category section, which the developer controls, lists single-player and nothing else. The PlayStation page says the game requires an internet connection and supports one player. Every demo report describes one character in one city, with scripted allies entering for story moments rather than a party you control.
The "requires internet" note does not mean multiplayer. Free-to-play games commonly require a connection for account and store reasons even when the content is solo. It is a technical requirement, not a mode.
Why the Steam page looks social
The Steam page carries two contradictory sets of signals. The developer-controlled category section says single-player. The user and platform tag area lists multiplayer, MMO, online co-op, cross-platform multiplayer, and family sharing.
Tags there are often applied by the platform or by users, not by the developer. When a page contradicts itself, the category section and the console store page carry more weight — so this guide treats the MMO tags as noise, not a hidden announcement.
The page also lists in-game chat and online interactivity. Those fields can exist for unrelated technical reasons and are not evidence of a co-op mode.
The 2023 multiplayer comment
In 2023 the producer said the game would include some multiplayer component while remaining strongly focused on single-player, and explicitly stated it was not an MMORPG. That sentence has been recycled ever since as proof of a co-op mode.
The honest reading is narrower. It is a three-year-old statement of intent, made before the current build existed, and never elaborated since. No player count, session structure, cross-play support, or launch inclusion has been confirmed. Nor has a 2025 interview that mentioned four-player co-op been repeated. Treat both as historical remarks, not promises.
There is no announced PvP mode
Nothing official describes player-versus-player content. Community wikis speculate about it and contradict themselves. The absence of an announcement is the strongest evidence: a live-service game launching with PvP would advertise it.
Cross-play and cross-progression are both open
ANANTA ships on PC, PS5, iOS, and Android, and the official line describes multi-platform availability rather than linked accounts. Cross-play has not been announced. Neither has cross-progression, and at least one community platform guide notes that it is not even mentioned.
Watch this before launch. Four platforms with no shared save is a real purchasing decision, especially for players who want to start on console and continue on mobile. Until NetEase answers, assume your progress lives on the platform where you made it.
What to expect at launch
- A solo campaign with scripted team-up moments, not a controllable party.
- No co-op, no PvP, no shared world. None are confirmed.
- An internet requirement that is about accounts, not about other players.
- Possible later additions. The developers say multiplayer is in development and will be shown at the right time — a direction, not a date.
Unconfirmed
Whether any multiplayer arrives after launch, what form it takes, cross-play, cross-progression, and account linking. The launch state is the only confirmed one.
The short version
Buy it as a single-player game. If you need co-op at launch, this is not the purchase. If you need cross-progression, wait for an official statement rather than a Steam tag.
